Dusty Eyler, a fiery Australian red-head he meets in Cape Town makes him think twice about his single lifestyle as grow to know each other on a deserted beach.As war breaks out he is ordered on a special mission to the Red Sea where he outsmarts a group of German E-boats. Then, nearing the Philippines he attacks and is attacked by a Japanese fleet. His boat, suffering mechanical failures arrives at Corregidor in the dark of night and is given orders to sail to Australia but to sink his command if attacked since his submarine is incapable of sailing submerged.After immitating a floating island, the Angler arrives in Australia and Cullison seeks out Dusty, whose own ship has been torpedoed.

Once they are united they travel across The Out Back to her ranch.Once again ordered into battle, Cullison confronts a Japanese task force in a secluded bay as it prepares to launch an attack on Darwin. The Angler is badly damaged and he is severly wounded in the attack.Recuperating in a hidden oasis on Dustys ranch where they are free to enjoy each other without any restrictions he decides that Dusty is the woman he has been looking for.
